Come on lets get real here, we’ve all googled what Victoria Secret Models do to stay in shape! And its unanimous… BOXING seems to be the key theme in the workout regime of all Angels. Funny that…its a key theme for the Vixen training regime too! So why is Boxing so popular and a universal sport no matter who you are or where you are in the world? Why do women love it so much when its looked at like a ‘man sport’?
Benefits of Boxing
Boxing as a workout for women requires a high level of ATHLETIX Prowess: Strength, Speed, Agility, Coordination, Endurance just to name a few attributes. Boxing as part of your weekly fitness regime enables you to work on those ATHLETIX Skills, all without walking away with a black eye or being KO’d! If you’re hoping to get in the BEST shape possible and improve your mindset, you just might want to sign up for our BOXFIT and KICKFIT Classes. There are a number of reasons why:
- Improved Fitness (Cardio Health)
You hear it all the time: You need to do cardio to protect yourself from heart disease, burn calories, and lose weight. But “doing cardio” doesn’t have to mean hopping on a BORING treadmill to log your required minutes – how mind numbing is that?
The whole point of cardio is to place a moderate amount of stress on your heart and lungs so that they’re challenged enough to make beneficial physiologic adaptations to support the higher level of physical activity. But how you choose to place stress on your heart and lungs is up to you. As long as you keep your heart rate up during your workout, there’s no reason you can’t punch, kick, and jump your way to a healthy heart at Bondi Vixen.
- Improved Total-Body Strength
All that punching, kicking, and jumping requires a surprising amount of strength. During a boxing workout, you may punch or kick the focus pads/shield hundreds of times, requiring your upper body, lower body and core to engage as you make contact with the pads. Plus, all our sessions incorporate body weight conditioning into the boxing workout.
- Better Co-ordination
You may not think about the importance of hand-eye coordination and its effect on total health, but hand-eye coordination plays an important role in a person’s gross and fine motor skills. If you have good hand-eye coordination, you tend to have faster reflexes and reaction times which result in better physical coordination as a whole. This is important as we get older, as coordination and balance become compromised and can increase the risk of falls.
Boxing can help focus on hand-eye coordination. When you’re paired up to work with a partner, you must be able to see the pads, react to the pads, and hit the pads, all while your partner is moving and changing position. It’s tough, but with regular and consistent training, your hand-eye coordination improves a lot!
- Decreased Stress
Almost any form of moderate to intense physical activity can decrease stress. According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise increases endorphins, boosts mood, works as a form of meditation, and improves sleep, all of which help reduce stress.
But sometimes you need more than a jog on the beach to help you keep calm and grounded. Boxing is a great outlet for stress for two reasons: First, during a BOXFIT or KICKFIT class you typically transition between high intensity bouts of exercise and moderate intensity recovery periods (when your partner is punching you). When you’re pushing yourself through a couple minutes of high-intensity punching or kicking, you don’t have much mental power left to worry about how awful your tinder date was, or how annoying a co-worker is. And even during rest periods, you’ll be focused on holding the pads and mentally preparing for the next combo, not stressing over your packed schedule or nagging mother-in-law.
Second, there’s an incredibly therapeutic release when you get to take some of your stress out on focus pads. It’s an empowering feeling to punch or kick the SH&T out of something.
- Improved Body Shape
Boxing is great for improving body shape – and without doubt, great for weight loss. Ultimately, these sessions will improve your muscle mass and decrease your fat mass = happy days!
Boxing is an awesome vehicle for improved body composition because it perfectly combines muscle-building strength training moves and calorie-torching bouts of cardio. By regularly sweating it out in a boxing or kickboxing class (BOXFIT, KICKFIT or MAX) and following a clean eating plan (Bikini ATHLETIX Lifestyle Guidelines), there’s no reason you won’t see changes in your shape and improvements to your body fat and weight.
BOTTOM LINE: Boxing is one of the most Effective, Efficient ways to get in shape and maintain your Mind, Body Health.
