How to really BOOST your Metabolism

Feb 7, 2016 | Diet, Fitness, HIIT, Nutrition

If you’re struggling to lose weight or frustrated by your slow progress with the wrong trainer, it’s time to listen to the experts with 25 years’ experience training 1000’s of women just like you! Our tactic is to rev up your metabolism. Boosting your metabolism will trick your body into burning more calories and will maximise the efficacy of your workouts. While some people are naturally blessed with great genetics, everyone – regardless of their age or gender can boost their metabolism.

Here’s our strategy on how to boost your metabolism and reach your fat burning potential:

Perform HIIT

High intensity interval training (HIIT) alternates short, intense bursts of exercise with brief recovery periods. This strategy can be applied to both cardio and strength training. For example, you can run from ramp to ramp on Bondi Beach as fast as you can then walk slowly from the next set of ramp to ramp and keep repeating from one of the beach to the other. Aim to complete at least 2 laps (north to south end and back to north end again).

HIIT offers several advantages over steady state cardio. For one thing, it doesn’t cause muscle loss; regular cardiovascular training burns both muscle and fat. Secondly, HIIT increases metabolic rate, enabling your body to keep burning calories long after your workout is done. This training method will improve your aerobic and anaerobic endurance, accelerate fat loss, and enhance athletix performance. For an effective HIIT workout that you can perform with equipment book yourself into our Athletix CONDITIONING Class or BOXFIT Classes.

Lift STRONG

Lifting weights is one of the best ways to boost your metabolic rate. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn throughout the day. Muscles need stimulus to grow. For this reason, doing our twice weekly Athletix STRENGTH Classes is one of the fastest ways to increase lean muscle tissue. Especially because we focus on compound movements such as squats and deadlifts.

Lifting Kettlebells and Powerbags isn’t the only way to trigger muscle hypertrophy. To maximise lean muscle tissue, it’s important to keep things fresh when training. This means incorporating new exercises into your routine and adjusting the number of reps and sets or time under tension. Rest assured we have that covered as every week the classes are progressive from week to week.

Consume PROTEIN

What you eat has a direct impact on your metabolism. Because protein has a greater thermogenic effect than carbs or fats, it requires more energy to digest. Adding more protein to your diet can raise your metabolism by up to 20%. As a result, you’ll feel fuller and less likely to snack on the naughty stuff. Get more protein into your diet by having eggs for breakfast, adding chicken or tuna to your lunch and drinking a quality protein shake such as our brand new ATHLETIX Whey.

From the effective training you perform to the quality protein you choose, these are the best ways to raise your metabolism.
