4 Steps to a Healthier YOU!

  1. WATER – CHEERS TO THAT! The average human body is made up of 50-65% water. Our entire functionality as a machine works on water, so when we get dehydrated we start to malfunction, no different to a car with an empty radiator.  We may get fuzzy thoughts, headaches or tiredness.  The body confuses thirst for hunger, so you may over consume calories when you are in fact just thirsty.  Soda, alcohol or sweetened beverages can be incredibly counterproductive to weight loss goals. Plus you may not have any idea how many calories you are drinking.  Up your H2O intake and replace all sweetened beverages with the good stuff (water) to help replenish your body and flush out toxins. As a result, you will have your body functioning smoothly and clarity of mind.
  1. NOURISH YOUR BODY. If you fuel your body with packaged, additive filled foods, it will prevent you from progressing towards your goals.  The quality of your calories count just as much as the number of calories!  Think fresh, lean, green and in season.  If it’s something that can sit in your pantry without going off for months, it’s bound to be full of additives which you don’t need! Number 1 general rule to go by – If you don’t recognise the ingredients listed or the ingredient list is incredibly long, it’s not nutritionally worth it!  By nourishing your body with healthy, nutritionally dense food, you are getting a variety of goodness.   1. GET YOUR ZZZ’s. The average adult needs 7-8 hours of sleep per night, the gap between getting too little sleep and just enough sleep can affect your health, your mood and your weight.  Part of this is physiological- when you don’t get enough sleep, leptin levels drop.  Leptin plays a key role in making you feel full.   1. GET SWEATING! Weight loss is about burning more calories than you consume, and resistance training increases the number of calories you burn for hours after you finish your workout.  The more lean muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest.  A combination of regular cardio and resistance training is required for optimal health of your cardiovascular system as well as your entire body structure. For many women, this is the most difficult lifestyle change of all, but the benefits are well worth it.
